Permits · Kitchen remodels
A finished kitchen. A missing permit.
A Mission Viejo homeowner needed an after-the-fact structural permit for a kitchen remodeled years earlier.

Jeremy L. wanted to bring his completed kitchen remodel up to code without assuming it all needed to be rebuilt.
Could the kitchen stay?
The work was already finished. NBE needed to assess the existing kitchen, understand the city’s requirements, and identify options for an after-the-fact permit.
“The engineering team worked with me to find options for how to get permitted, be up to code, and ensure safety.”
Reviewing the options
NBE reviewed what could remain, what needed attention, and what engineering documents the permit review required. The team coordinated directly with Jeremy’s contractor and the City of Mission Viejo.
A coordinated path forward
Jeremy had options, his contractor had engineering direction, and the city received information for its review. A complete kitchen redo was not the only path forward.
